🔥 Why does my laptop get so hot? The silent killer of your computer
Does your laptop feel burning to the touch? Do the fans sound like a plane turbine even when watching a YouTube video? It is not normal, and most importantly: it is not something you should ignore.
At ByteChip we see computers every day that die prematurely from temperature problems that basic maintenance would have solved. Today we explain what is happening inside your computer.
1. Enemy number one: dust
Even if your home is clean, a laptop's fans act like small vacuum cleaners. Over time, dust builds up in the fine fins of the copper radiator, creating a kind of "felt wall" that stops hot air from leaving.
- Result: The heat stays trapped and the internal components start to "cook".
2. Thermal paste: it has an expiry date
Between the processor and the heatsink there is a substance called thermal paste. Its function is to transfer heat efficiently.
- The problem is that, over the years (and more so in laptops that reach high temperatures), this paste dries out and cracks.
- A dry paste acts as an insulator instead of a conductor, making the processor's temperature rise in seconds.
3. What is "thermal throttling"?
When your laptop detects that it is about to burn, it activates a defence mechanism: it lowers its own power to cool down.
If you notice that your PC suddenly runs slowly, "freezes" for a few seconds or games lose smoothness, it is not that the PC is old, it is suffering thermal stress.
4. The risks of not acting in time
Ignoring excessive heat can cause irreversible failures:
- Solder joints coming loose: Heat expands and contracts materials, which can desolder the graphics chip (the famous "black screen" failure or a display that will not light up).
- Swollen batteries: Heat is the worst enemy of lithium cells; a battery that gets too hot can deform and break the chassis.
❄️ Keep your laptop cool with ByteChip
Preventive maintenance costs a fraction of what a motherboard repair or a new laptop costs. At ByteChip we carry out a professional-grade clean:
- Full disassembly: We reach the corners that canned compressed air cannot.
- Cleaning of fans and radiator: We remove any physical obstruction.
- Premium thermal paste change: We use high-conductivity compounds (such as Arctic MX-6 or similar) that guarantee years of stability.
- Stress test: We check temperatures before and after to make sure your PC is back working in its optimal range.
