🚀 Powkiddy X55: the definitive guide to installing Rocknix (make your console like new!) Is your Powkiddy X55 not booting, running slowly or do you want to give it a facelift with an optimised system? At Bytechip we bring you the solution. We will teach you how to install Rocknix, a Plug & Play operating system designed to squeeze the most out of your handheld console and revive your favourite retro games. Forget complicated setups! With Rocknix, the process is practically automatic. 🛠️ What you will need before you start A quality MicroSD card:Minimum 16GB: For the operating system. Recommended 32GB or 64GB: If you want the system and a good number of games on the same card. Important: Use reliable brands such as SanDisk, Samsung EVO or Kingston. Low-quality cards can cause failures and data corruption. MicroSD card reader: To connect the card to your PC. A PC (Windows, macOS or Linux): To download the software and "burn" the image. Flashing software:BalenaEtcher is free, easy to use and very reliable. 📥 Step 1: Download the Rocknix operating system Visit the official Rocknix page: Go to the GitHub repository or the official downloads page here. Find the X55 version: Make sure you download the correct image for your console (the one we have linked above). Download BalenaEtcher: If you do not have it, you can get it at balena.io/etcher. 💻 Step 2: Flash Rocknix onto your MicroSD with BalenaEtcher This is the key step and it is surprisingly simple: Insert your MicroSD into your PC's card reader. Open BalenaEtcher. Click "Flash from file" and select the Rocknix .img.gz file you downloaded for the X55. Click "Select target" and choose with EXTREME CARE your MicroSD card. This step is critical! Make sure you do not select an internal hard drive of your PC, as the process will erase all the data on the selected disk. Click "Flash!". BalenaEtcher will take care of everything: unzipping the file, copying the system to the SD and verifying that the write is correct. This process can take a few minutes. 🎮 Step 3: First boot and automatic setup The easiest part is yet to come! Once BalenaEtcher finishes and verifies the card, eject it safely from your PC. Insert the MicroSD with Rocknix into the TF1 (or "INT" / "SYSTEM") slot of your Powkiddy X55. This is the slot dedicated to the operating system. Switch on your Powkiddy X55.The first time you boot, the console will take a little longer than usual. You will see a series of texts on screen and possibly the Rocknix logo or the creators' logo. DO NOT SWITCH IT OFF! The system is expanding the partitions, creating the folder structure and configuring the environment automatically. When the process finishes (it may last 2-5 minutes), the console should load straight into the main Rocknix interface, ready for you to start adding your games. 🕹️ Add your games (ROMs) and BIOS! Once Rocknix is running: Connect the Powkiddy X55 to the PC by USB: With Rocknix, simply connect the console to the PC with a USB cable, and it will appear as a storage drive where you can copy your ROMs. Use a second SD (recommended): The ideal is to use a second MicroSD card (TF2 or "EXT") for your ROMs and BIOS. That way, if you need to reinstall the system, your games will be safe. Simply create the corresponding folders inside the card. 💡 Bytechip expert tip If manual installation seems complicated or your Powkiddy X55 still gives problems, at Bytechip we are specialists in setting up retro consoles.
